Hi, I’m Nyssa — the calligrapher, engraver, and creative heart behind Use Your Words, a modern calligraphy studio based in Central NJ.

From Behavior Analyst to Full-Time Creative

Before launching this business full-time, I spent over a decade as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), working with children with special needs. It was incredibly meaningful work — but in 2017, while planning my own wedding, I discovered modern calligraphy, and something clicked.

I created all of my own custom wedding signage, and soon after, friends and strangers began asking for pieces of their own. What started as a creative outlet slowly evolved into a side hustle — and then a business. As I juggled being a mom and a full-time BCBA, I kept dreaming about what it might look like to fully pursue this creative path.

Now, I’ve officially taken the leap — and Use Your Words is my full-time job. (Still pinching myself every day.)

What I Do

I specialize in meaningful, handcrafted details that make your moments unforgettable:

  • Custom wedding signage and day-of calligraphy

  • Live event engraving for luxury brands, activations, and pop ups

  • Personalized, hand-engraved gifts for weddings, milestones, and everyday moments

Whether I’m engraving a bottle of cologne at a brand event or hand-lettering a welcome sign for your reception, my goal is always the same: to bring your vision to life through timeless design and beautiful words.

A Little More About Me

I live in Central New Jersey with my husband and our two kids, and when I’m not lettering or engraving, I’m likely color-coding something, playing mahjong, reading my book club’s latest pick — or sneaking in a slice of pizza (or three). I believe in the magic of small details, the beauty of handmade work, and celebrating life’s most meaningful moments — big or small.
